@ValTass14

I’m gonna gently agree with other commenters in critiquing the title of this post. It is great to consider the role of nutrition in pet health, not so great to shame people for feeding their dog what they can afford, and what might even have been recommended by THEIR vet. Perhaps an alternative, non-alarmist title would be “Can traditional dog food fit into a healthy pet diet?”

I’m not a fan of the clickbait. Obviously kibble isn’t “killing” pets. Trying to guilt responsible pet owners is not very nice and at worst may actively discourage people from adopting pets, which obviously leads to worse outcomes for the animals. Please think about what you’re doing with your platform. You have a responsibility here.

can confirm my mini schnauzer ate kibble and he is dead. lol he lived until 23 and whenever we thought he was down he'd see a bunny and be like bilbo baggins after the lord of the rings all creaky like "I think I'm up for another adventure"

This is such clickbait and scary for people who can only afford kibble. Why make titles like this? Don’t even want to watch it because for a lot of poor people there isn’t an alternative and we love our dogs.

For many, many pets, kibble is absolutely the safest and healthiest choice. Please stop spreading misinformation. You have a responsibility with your platform and things like this are absolutely irresponsible and will harm pets because most people aren’t able to provide the properly balanced diet that kibble can. This is especially true for cats. You’re actively doing harm, here, Vanessa. Please stop.

Awesome to consider kibble as something totally generic all over the world and independent of ingredients, or production quality and forgetting whether a dog can actually tolarate BARF before shaming owners for feeding choices on a whim. Some dogs with liver disease, can't tolerate animal based protein, again some dogs have allergies and need to avoid certain types of protein. Other dogs just simply grow fat on BARF, their bodies can't handle to get ONLY protein based diet. Why? Because dogs are not JUST carnivore anymore, in the tens of thousands of years of domestication, their digestive system changed to be able to handle other nutrition sources. Dogs are not wolves. As humans are not equal to the proverbial "caveman". Not all humans can handle paleo, just as not all dogs can handle BARF. Stop shaming people for not following a certain fashion right when it pops up it's head. It's irresponsible and mean! And especially from you Vanessa. I expected so much more empathy and research from you. Such a shame!

Always soak kibble before feeding as it swells in the animals gut massively

I cook for my dog as well worth the time and effort. It’s not that expensive for me. I make it a freeze it and I take it out as needed. Make sure she has all her vitamins. No beef, she’s allergic to it mostly chicken, turkey and vegetables. A little fruit on the side.

Not a fan of this one because of the title. You need to get nutrition advice from a board certified veterinary nutritionist, they specialize in it. Kibble is not killing pets (generally speaking), but there are many brands that do not follow WSAVA guidelines when formulating their foods, so these brands can possibly cause illness. Kibble has come a long way.... there is a reason why our pets are living longer lives now (better complete and balanced food and better veterinary care)
