Do you know what attachment styles are? Essentially, it’s the way that you connect with other people.

And there’s research that shows trauma correlates with changes in attachment styles.

For example, if your needs were not met when you were younger, you can develop an anxious attachment style. You become clingy with your partner and constantly worried that they’ll stop loving you or find someone else.

If your emotional vulnerabilities were met with punishment as a child, you could develop an avoidant attachment style. You become emotionally unavailable in relationships in order to protect yourself from getting hurt.

On the other hand, a secure attachment style allows you to have healthy relationships with others. You’re able to openly communicate and are comfortable with emotional intimacy.

It’s not easy to develop a secure attachment style if you’ve dealt with trauma in your life, but it’s totally possible.

The first step is understanding what trauma is and how it affects you. Then you can begin to reshape who you are and live a life outside the limitations of your trauma.
