RUIGOORD / Amsterdam Artist Village

Ruigoord is a small village in the western harbor area of Amsterdam, Netherlands. In 1973 it was squatted by a group af artist and has since become a thriving alternative artistic community , a hub of 'Free Cultural Spaces', supported by inspiring & talented people. In 2013 Ruigoord is celebrating 40 years as a free cultural 'harbor'. Many, many various events are organized there, concentrating in and around the church building, There are a few houses left which are used as artist studios and workshops. Officially, no one lives there anymore, because of safety regulations with the harbor and chemical storage tanks next door and airplane routes overhead.
