It is with an enormous amount of sorrow that I have to let you all know that our Caroline succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Tuesday afternoon. She was surrounded by her human and animal family, and was showered with love and safety, as she was helped to transition peacefully.
Beyond our grief - from the loss of her presence in our lives as we have known it for 16 years and from our own pain as we begin to mourn that loss - I am feeling so much gratitude.
I’m thankful for the amount of time we had with her, considering she was given “days to weeks” and miraculously, lived almost four precious months instead.
I’m grateful because in the silence of her passing, in the late afternoon peace of our catio, I felt her joy as she shook off the weight of her broken body and assumed her place in the realm of spirit energy.
And finally, I’m grateful for the support and love that you have graced Minoo and I with during this journey.
I was so conflicted when I began chronicling our story in a vlog, but with every episode I released, I was reminded that I am surrounded by a community that knows what the love for and from an animal truly means, and who lives in the light of that love, especially when faced with the loss of that family member.
I will share the final installment of the vlog this weekend, but in the meantime, here’s to my wonderful, beautiful little girl. We miss you more with every passing minute as we wish you safe travels to your next adventure.
