Beyond Ghibli

Hi everyone! Happy New Year :) A while back I asked for your recommendations on series to watch and make videos about. The winners of those community picks were March Comes in like a Lion, Mushishi and Steins;Gate. I fell in love with every one of them - and now that their respective videos have been made, I'm looking for more recommendations. What would you love to see Beyond Ghibli cover in the future? Let me know in the comments below :)

I can't miss a chance to recommend A Place Further Than the Unvierse, it's so incredibly heartfelt and inspiring, I love that series to pieces.

The hype, the bombastic, the spiralling power of Gurren Laggan! The themes of loss, carrying on, moving forward as well as many more artistic flares make it a gem

Violet Evergarden. In my eyes, it's the most beautifully written anime ever. Very heart touching stuff.

Your Lie In April. It’s one of the most beautiful yet emotionally destructive pieces of media I’ve ever consumed. 10/10.

Tatami Galaxy and Ping Pong the Animation. Both directed by Masaaki Yuasa. They both have interesting art styles that I thought looked bad at first, but ended up loving. The stories in both series are among the best I've ever watched.

@BlueMatty

Heike story is one that hasn't been talked about at all really despite how incredibly important and genuinely great it is, so that's my recommendation.

I'm partial to Baccano. Lad Russo is by far one of my favorite villians. The story is presented is such an epic way. Also, how can you not love the Flying Pussyfoot?

Violet Evergarden is a masterpiece in animation and writing. You’d love it. Ace of Diamond is an absolute gem. And considering how much you like Haikyuu I’m positive you’ll fall in love with the characters In this show just as much. Astra: Lost in Space is an incredibly underrated show. With only being 12 eps, so much happens in the story that blows your mind. Your Lie In April is as beautiful and touching as it is heartbreaking. Definitely a must watch

Nana is an amazing not so well-known anime, the first and only shojou that i've watched and totally fell in love with it. Not to mention the several times i cried when hearing the words "Hey Nana...".

Please don’t look past Made in Abyss, it’s the entire reason I got into anime in the first place. I happened across the trailer for the series on YouTube and was blown away, until then I hadn’t even considered anime as a medium for storytelling as I had only been exposed to it through weebs. It was the first anime I ever watched and after finishing many more, it still remains my favourite. The series definitely deserves your time

Your video on Mushishi got me to start watching the show a few months back. So I just want to thank you for making that video because Mushishi is now one of my favorite anime.

The works of Genndy Tartakovsky are some to marvel at. From Samurai Jack to his latest adultswim series PRIMAL and his movies with the Transylvania franchise, his way of storytelling is always entertaining to watch.

@Brokenfingergamer

Some recommendations: •Modest Heroes- A collection of breathtaking shorts with heartfelt stories from Studio Ponoc •Sing Yesterday For Me- An overlooked release from 2020 dealing with the travails of being a 20-something trying to follow your dreams as cold, hard reality sinks in… •Memories- One of Studio 4C’s first major works. An anthology film centered around three of Katsuhiro Otomo’s short stories… •Roujin Z- A humorous, yet bleak, satirical sci-fi take on the issues with caring for the elderly in Japan and the rise of technological innovation. Definitely ties into the current population crisis in that nation with a plummeting birth rate and a bigger ratio of senior citizens to young denizens…

Kaiji would be fun I think. Newer ones like Sonny Boy, Ousama ranking and Heike Monogatari would also make great videos.
