Considering bedrock has them in the barrels it's safe to say that java edition has a bug. Mojang is on vacation right now tho so it might take a while to get fixed :( I know how structures are created, since I've made some datapacks that added new ones, so I know exactly how this bug happened. What I don't know is if the barrels will be filled as soon as the chunk generates or if they fill when you open the barrel. A chest with a loot table will only generate the loot upon opening, but I'm not sure about the bugged barrels considering their loot has already been generated. Honestly, I think it'd be OK to reset the trial chamber chunks after this does get patched so you can get all the amethyst you need. Altho chambers are common enough that you might not need it

Okay. Here is my story. So, I was testing the snapshots (on java) for funsies and there WERE amethyst shards, just not in the chest. Even in snapshots I played the cake, iron block, and diamond were in the EXACT same spot EVERY time. I was curious about it, but never got to it. I found the amethyst in other chests and pots rarely. Idk if the loot tables changed, but that’s what I experienced.

The loottable got broken during its upload when a dev accidentally opened the pot, setting every pot to have the same loot. Another youtuber found it out as they play on a flat world world and were disappointed by the lack of amethyst.

From Minecraft Beta & Preview 1.21.0.24: "Decorated Pots in Trial Chambers will now drop less types of items to ease inventory management" This change later came in Java Edition Snapshot 24w18a, but was not documented in the changelog.

You can check yourself by "unzipping" the minecraft 1.21 jar in the versions folder in your minecraft directory. In there you just have to go into data -> minecraft -> loot_table -> and then seafch for the trial chamber stuff.

Intersections The room where the loot is stored isn't actually an intersection, it is a corridor end. If you were to go back to version 1.20.5 and enable the '1.21 experimental features', you'll see in the trial chamber pots that you could have got lapis lazuli, copper ingots, gold ingots, up to 3 emerald blocks, up to 2 diamond blocks, and even amethyst shards.

I just remembered, they totally DID change the loot table for pots in the trial chambers. They used to have amethyst but they removed it in favor of not clogging up the inventory with extra items. So they changed it to a smaller list of items unfortunately.

Never seen them in the official release and I've raided close to 2 dozen chambers. It must have been placeholder loot in snapshots.

I've seen tons of comments saying that you can find amethyst shards within the pots in trial chambers. I can't find amethyst anywhere in the loot tables on the wiki, and I haven't seen proof of this yet.
If anyone has proof of this happening in vanilla 1.21, please send it to me in my discord! Or even if you think you know where the rumor comes from- Is it a Bedrock vs Java thing? Maybe something in a 1.21 snapshot that was reverted?
I'd love to figure out exactly which version introduced the bug with the iron block, cake, and diamond.
