Chris Baker - SUPERHEROdotVG

I’m Chris Baker, and I know a LOT about superhero video games (Star Wars ones too!). I’ve been part of the games industry for two decades, with jobs at Marvel, LucasArts and Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine, to name a few. So I’ve not only had a hand in the release of more than 40 titles, I’ve also written about hundreds (thousands?) of them for prominent outlets (also: RollingStone.com, EGM, PSM, GameSpy and more). I even wrote a book called “WRONG! Retro Games, You Messed Up Our Comic Book Heroes!”, which is linked to in this profile. I’ll always love superhero video games new and old – almost as much as I enjoy making videos about them.

A few titles I’ve worked on: every console Spider-Man game from 2008-2014, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, Marvel Pinball, Star Wars Battlefront II (Pandemic), LEGO Star Wars II...plus a few I’d rather not mention while trying to make myself sound awesome.

Enjoy the videos! Comments welcome!

Which of the canceled X-Men games in my latest video would you most like to have seen released?

Today's X-Men '97 furthers my certitude that the show was made for me, personally, with its super-fun homage to X-Men games of the '90s. It has me looking back fondly to my Marvel days, when we managed to release Konami's classic arcade game to consoles for the first time. To complement the PS3 release, I contributed this to the PlayStation Blog, which was a blast to go back and look at after so long. If you have fond memories of that game, I think you'll dig it too. blog.playstation.com/2010/12/13/marvels-top-5-what…
Oh, and if you're curious about that X-Men video I teased a few days ago, finishing it up is taking a little longer than anticipated. But I promise, it's worth the wait!

Oh, hey there. It's been forever, but a new Superhero.VG video is nearing completion -- and this one's really special. I have something in this video about a canceled X-Men game that no one has seen since 1997 (and even then, it was a pretty small group of people). If I did a Premiere, would you try and come?...

That moment you think you have something no one else noticed in the #SpiderMan2PS5 video you’re working on, but then you see that some actual pro YouTuber you’ve never heard of just posted the scoop you’ve kept to yourself for 4 days…

With #StarWarsCelebration wrapping up, it’s time for the biggest announcement! Uh…from me, anyway.
Coming soon to Kindle:
X-WINGS, LIGHTSABERS, AND SCORPION VADER: CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF STAR WARS GAMES

Join my email list for more release info: c-bake.com/swgamesemail

The book collects four long pieces I’ve written about Star Wars games—three for the now-defunct Glixel.com in 2017, one for Superhero.VG. When appropriate, new content has been added.

For example:
“40 Most Memorable Moments in Star Wars Gaming”
Originally published by Glixel in 2017, this countdown focuses on MOMENTS rather than the games as a whole. I’ve updated with games released since then, and I’m proud of the numerous exclusive dev recollections.

“Scorpion Vader Attacks!”
You’ve seen The Angry Video Game Nerd massacre Namco’s infamous Japan-exclusive Star Wars adaptation for things like the Vader that turns into a scorpion—but did it actually get some things more right than other SW classics? Includes quotes from the composer.
My friend/localization expert Miguel Corti even helped me walk through the entirety of the Namco game’s dialogue, comparing it to a fan translation for the best localization of the game ever. That’s something that’s never been published!

Other pieces examine Expanded Universe material that came to life in games, plus another highlighting every Battle of Hoth in games (more than 40!).

I may add more, but it’s well over 20,000 words worth of material at the moment. Coming whenever it’s done— for as cheap as Amazon allows me to make it. Thank you, Jason Babler, for the cover treatments, and thank you, Thor Thorvaldson, for the awesome #ScorpionVader! And thank you, John Davison, Simon Cox, and Miguel Lopez for accepting most of this content the first time around, for Glixel (it wouldn't exist otherwise).

The Last Ronin is getting a videogame adaptation -- this is fantastic news!
www.polygon.com/23645176/tmnt-last-ronin-video-gam…
Pure videogame adaptations of comics -- several of which are featured on this very channel -- are a mostly lost art, and I couldn't be happier to see such a popular, recent story get that treatment.
Interestingly, the announcement comes from the licensor, with no mention of the developer and/or publisher. I don't know if I've ever seen that before.
