Come October, the Congress-ruled Karnataka govt will host a conclave to form an “economic alliance” with “growth-oriented” States. This includes Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Delhi, and Punjab.

The celebration of Hindi Diwas in Union Government-owned banks, departments and companies has reignited the debate around Hindi imposition, which goes against the federal structure of the Constitution.

While Kannada organisations and activists have often been accused of countering this with an aggressive assertion of regional pride, faultlines have also deepened in the IT city which has been witnessing occasional Kannada vs Hindi language wars. Social media also seems to be doing its part to make the former feel undermined and the latter feel unwelcome.

Joining us for the conversation around this, is A Narayana, Professor of public policy and governance at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru. #karnataka #karnatakagovernment #hindidiwas2024 #Federalism

The death of an elderly woman in an attack by a pack of stray dogs in Bengaluru has not only jolted the authorities into action, but also triggered a deluge of misinformation, calls for relocation of stray dogs, and instances of aggression towards dog feeders.

What can authorities, communities and individuals do to approach such issues with sensitivity and avoid instances of conflict?

What can we do to co-exist with them? What should you do when confronted with a pack of aggressive stray dogs? We also speak to Kam Raghavan, founder of All Paws Community, and animal activist Arun Prasad. #bangalore #bengaluru #straydogs

The Kannada film industry has delivered some really interesting movies in the latter half of 2024. Compared to the dull first six months of the year, the industry has recovered well to produce a variety of films worth discussing. However, most of these films have suffered from the curse of the second half. They all begin with great promise in the first half but become less interesting in the second half. Why is it difficult to write a convincing second half? How challenging is it write a screenplay that engages audiences from start to finish? The Hindu takes a look at this trend. #kannadacinema #kannadafilmindustry #kannadafilms #Sandalwood #Bheema #laughingbuddha #pepe #powder

The legal and political tug-of-war between the State government and the Raj Bhavan in Karnataka is turning more vexatious with each passing day. The escalating conflict between the two constitutional offices, being fought in full public glare, has now reached the steps of the High Court.

Bengaluru’s traffic is infamous and legendary. And its byproduct, road rage, is a great leveller.

The alarming escalation in the number of road rage incidents in Bengaluru has spared none.
From a senior citizen to an IPS officer, from an actor to a techie, to even an ambulance ferrying an accident victim, road rage can affect anyone, anytime.

How did roads, a simple means to get from point A to point B, become the cause for such heightened angst and ill-temper? What triggers such aggression among motorists on the road? #bangalore #bengaluru #roadrage #bengalurutraffic

While the projects are aimed at easing the chaos in the IT city and taking us closer to the shiny vision of ‘Brand Bengaluru’, how viable are these plans?

Decongestion and management of Bengaluru’s infamous traffic were among the key focus areas of the 2024-25 Karnataka Budget. While the Budget suggested the implementation of big-ticket projects for this purpose, it did not however propose any allocation for them.

While the ideas are futuristic and ambitious, citizens have seen many such infrastructure and mobility projects either be prolonged endlessly or never see the light of day due to perennial issues of funding, land acquisition and poor planning.

The city is dotted with stalled flyovers, underpasses, and signal-free corridors that have only done more harm than good by increasing bottlenecks and inconveniencing commuters. The Hindu even ran a series called Stuck in the Middle with ground reports from many such choke points in Bengaluru.

So, given the history of haphazard planning and implementation, does the sprawling metropolis need more projects to add to its woes?
To discuss this, we are joined today by Srinivas Alavilli, who works on Sustainable Cities and Transport with WRI India. #bengaluru #bangalore #bengalurutraffic
